Long Weekend

This weekend was the first long weekend of the school year. Actually, that’s not true. Labor Day weekend was technically the first long weekend. But it also coincided with my birthday weekend, so in my head I somehow didn’t really count it. In my head this was the first long weekend of the school year. It’s the first Columbus Day weekend I’ve had since graduating high school. And it couldn’t have come at a better time.

I spent a very large chunk of the weekend doing homework. I know that doesn’t sound like the world’s coolest celebration, but I have a lot of homework. And what was great about this weekend was that I got to do homework on my own schedule. Yesterday I got all the homework I wanted to done and had time to spend 3 hours hanging out with my mom and catching up on TV. I got to spend today prepping for my Praxis II because the homework I needed to have done was done. It’s a really great feeling to be able to do academics on my own schedule. I wasn’t doing homework because it was the only time I was going to have to do it. I was doing homework because it was a good time for me to do it.

On top of doing homework, I did manage to fit a few fun things into my weekend. Friday we went out to dinner as a family. Saturday it rained so we all spent the day at home for the most part. And yesterday we all went out in the morning to go apple and pumpkin picking. It was tons of fun, the end result was a delicious apple pie tonight (thanks mom!) and we have two pumpkins chilling on our porch.

All in all it was a really great weekend, and I hope that all of you had a nice fall weekend too!

Friday Fun: Catching Up

Hi Everyone!

Sorry that I’ve been MIA for most of the week. Mostly it was because I didn’t have a lot to say, and partly it was because I’ve just been so busy with work. Taking six classes means a lot of work a lot of the time, and my family is coming up to visit tomorrow, so I’ve been working on getting things done in advance. But also, I figured that if I don’t have anything I want to say, it’s ok if I go MIA for a day or two (or four). It’s not as if I’m planning on disappearing completely. If that’s the case, I’ll give you guys a heads up.

So all of that out of the way, things are good. School is keeping me very busy, but I like most of the work I have to do so that’s ok. And life has been a little exciting because it’s been premiere week for TV, and while I have some shows I still need to catch up on, the premieres that I have seen have been really good. Regular readers of this blog know that I’m a little bit of a TV junkie, so premiere week is an exciting thing for me.

In other news, I think I had previously mentioned that I had discovered a new young adult author, Susane Colasanti. Since writing that post, I’ve read 4 of her books, and I’ve absolutely loved them. They’re the type of book that I just have to read until it’s done because I so desperately want to know what’s going to happen next. Her books are entirely relatable and realistic, and I highly recommend going out and reading her books. You won’t regret it.

I’ve also been excited lately because fall weather is (slowly) starting to roll in, and I adore sweater weather. Summer is wonderful and I love it, but I’m ready for cooler temperatures and fall clothing. This only in part has to do with the fact that I’m very tired of wearing my summer wardrobe. Just a smidgen.

That’s all for now, and I’ll try to write again soon. Maybe even tomorrow.

Fall Adventures

Today was the official last day of summer, meaning that tomorrow is the first official day of fall. And in the spirit of fall, and in celebrating a friend’s birthday, a group of us had brunch and went apple picking today. I guess apple picking is more a New England thing than it is something that happens anywhere else, and it’s definitely an activity that I associate with fall. Before coming to college my family went apple picking every year and I got to go with them. It was a big tradition where we went apple picking, sometimes got pumpkins and gourds, and took pictures with all the cutouts that were there. So going apple picking today was a real treat.

Today we got to pick apples and peaches, and we also got apple cider, maple candy and cider doughnuts. We took pictures with cutouts and said hi to the horses that live at the orchard. And we resolved to go back next month to look at pumpkins. The weather was really gorgeous and we had a lot of fun. Apple picking is something I haven’t really done in a few years, and this was a great way to both end summer and kick off fall.

What are your favorite fall activities? You already know one of mine.
