Friday Fun: Mystic Adventures

I love living in Mystic. Really, I do. It’s really touristy, but it’s where I grew up, and it’s my home. Sometimes it’s a more exciting place than other times, and during the summer there’s a lot going on because that’s when all the tourists come. There are more fairs and festivals and all the rest of it. And of course there’s all the normal tourist things – the Seaport and the Aquarium and Downtown.

Today we went to the Seaport. I went with my mom and my brother, and it was a lot of fun. We really went all out and took a ton of pictures everywhere – at exhibits and at boats and at all sorts of fun random things along the way. It was the perfect way to spend the afternoon.

I normally make it to the Seaport once a summer because unfortunately, sometimes that’s all I have time for. But I love going because I love seeing the different exhibits and just taking everything in. And it really was a great way to spend an afternoon with my mom and brother.

We also went downtown after the Seaport, for ice cream and to go to the bookstore. And we all know that I really love bookstores.

What adventures have all of you been up to?

Tourist Season

I might have mentioned this before, but I live in a touristy part of the world. From late spring to early fall it seems as though everyone and their cousin is here in Mystic taking in the sights. And on the one hand that’s great. There are some really cool things in my little corner of the world. And on the other hand it drives me crazy to have to navigate all the cars. Lately it seems that they’re everywhere. And they’re becoming increasingly difficult to navigate when I’m out and about, especially when they’re in downtown. I just want to make my commute which is hard enough when I hit bridge traffic, and tourist traffic just makes it that much more crazy. Somehow though, I think I’ll manage.

Being a “Native”

I’m sure that the title of this post sounds a little weird. But I live in a small town where everyone sort of knows everyone else. And the people who have lived here the longest are even related to most others. I haven’t lived here on Mystic long enough to achieve that status, but I am becoming one of those people who knows everyone else. I didn’t realize it until my internship this summer. It seems that every time I go out for an article I know at least one of the people involved. And in its own way, it’s nice. It makes doing my job a little easier, and the people who are involved always get a little excited. And it’s nice to connect more with the people I know and meet and connect with new people. So while to some it might seem a little weird, I really enjoy being a native.
