Coloring

It’s been a while since I’ve written about something fun, something I just really love doing. I’ve shared quotes, and I’ve written Sweet Sunday posts, but I haven’t just talked about something that I love.

And I love coloring.

Seriously. I’ve loved it for as long as I can remember, and I don’t plan on ever not loving it. I have an array of coloring books. I have simple ones and holiday ones and Disney ones – lost of Disney ones. I also have “grown up” coloring books, which just means that the pictures are more intricate and require more thought.

My favorite “grown up” coloring books are Johanna Basford’s. She has 3 out currently, and I own all of them. I love them. I love the detail that goes into them. I love the pictures. I love figuring out what colors go together and what colors will make the pictures come to life. Coloring in these books is a great way to unwind and decompress after a long day.

What about you? Are you someone who colors? What are you coloring? If you aren’t someone who colors, how do you unwind after a long day?

You’re Never Too Old to Color

Some people might not agree with the title of this post. They might feel that coloring is for little kids, for art class, maybe for when someone is babysitting. And that’s fine. Some people don’t want to color for forever. I do think it’s something worth considering though, because coloring is pretty awesome.

I was most definitely someone who colored when I was little. I had lots of coloring books and an entire Rubbermaid of crayons. (In my defense it was a shoebox sized Rubbermaid.) I loved to color. I spent a lot of time coloring. It’s something I’ve always found very enjoyable.

And as I got older I continued to color. Eventually we got rid of the Rubbermaid of crayons and I worked my way up in terms of the size of my Crayola boxes. I got new coloring books and found a lot of coloring pages on the internet. It’s been pretty fabulous.

It’s not just that I love coloring, even though I really do. For me there’s something very therapeutic about coloring. It’s just me and the picture and the crayons. (Or sometimes colored pencils). All I have to worry about is choosing the right color and staying inside the lines. (You don’t have to worry about staying in the lines, but I tend to.) I don’t have to think about the million things going on in my life. I don’t have to worry or be stressed. I just have to live in the moment and remember that sometimes life really is simple.

You’re never too old to color. You’re also never too old to start coloring again.

Arts and Crafts

I’ve always liked arts and crafts. I was the kid who had so many crayons and a ton of coloring books and a ton of arts and crafts supplies. It was great. But then I got older and arts and crafts slowly fell out of my life. I still color, and I really began writing, but I wasn’t making things anymore. And I kind of missed it but all in all it was OK. Recently though I’ve decided that I need to channel some of my creative energy into new endeavors, and I’ve turned back to crafting. I’ve found a ton of great printables on Pinterest, and I’ve been having so much fun with them. I’m working really hard to break out of my neat and orderly little bubble and just really enjoy the crafting. It’s an adventure for me for sure, but so far I’m really enjoying it. I’ll keep you posted as my crafting adventures continue.
